About Carl Kingsley
MA (CLIN PSYCH) (STELL) (CUM LAUDE), BA PSYCH (HONS) (UNISA)
I am a registered clinical psychologist working in private practice in Somerset West and Paarl. I have a special interest in schema therapy, but generally adopt an integrated approach that allows for flexibility and is tailored to the specific needs, desires and difficulties of the client. Read more about my approach.
My working life began in primary school education, following the completion of a BMus degree at UCT in 2003, after which I worked for a period of six years as a full-time music educator at Rondebosch Boys’ Preparatory School.
Although I found my work extremely fulfilling I had always had a fascination for psychology and so completed my BA Psych (Hons) through Unisa on a part-time basis before gaining acceptance into the MA (Clinical Psychology & Community Counselling) programme at Stellenbosch University in 2009.
In 2012, I completed a one year clinical internship through UCT’s Department of Psychiatry & Mental Health and gained experience working in acute psychiatry, an in-patient therapeutic ward at Groote Schuur Hospital and in the Division of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry at The Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital.
In 2013 I completed a year of community service through the City of Cape Town’s Specialised Health Department and developed an interest in addiction treatment and recovery. Following this I spent three and a half years working at a private in-patient addiction treatment facility in Paarl, whilst seeing patients privately after hours at my practice in Somerset West.
I moved to full-time private practice in 2017.
